Exclusive Premiere: Rohan Solomon Bats for Slowing Down Beyond the Pandemic in ‘Serenity’ Video

The New Delhi-bred singer-songwriter goes to his “personal meditation retreat” in Landour for his latest song

Singer, composer and producer Rohan Solomon gets into rest and rejuvenation mode in an earnest way in the postcard-perfect new music video for his single “Serenity.”

In an inviting manner, the song and video – shot at Solomon’s family home in the hill station town of Landour, Uttarakhand by Anubhav Jain and director Yeashu Yuvraj – address the importance of slowing down and seeking peace away from the madness of megacities.

While the narratives of pacing oneself were the subject of many a tune during the early years of the pandemic, Solomon underscores its importance whether or not we’re in a lockdown. Batting for the long-term significance of having regular stressbusters in one’s life, Solomon says his “personal meditation retreat” is Landour, in a home that has served as a conducive songwriting environment for many of his tracks. He adds, “It could be something different for other people, but the idea is to find that place where you feel at ease and feel at home and you find bliss […] Hopefully this song has been able to capture that vibe and I hope it can be a means of reducing stress and anxiety for anyone that listens to it.”

Solomon is joined by fellow indie regulars from the capital, including drummer Abhijit Sood (who employs jazz metal brushes instead of drumsticks), bassist Harshit Misra aka Hashbass and guitars by singer-songwriter Soham Mallick. While the initial sonic bed for “Serenity” seems rooted in folksy, Americana and country elements, the orchestral arrangements – composed by Harshit Verma from Synergy Audio Productions – add a sense of somberness and brevity. Solomon adds that the song has a singer-songwriter vibe, but the orchestral parts play a more significant role. “The song will be a part of my upcoming album which is a story being told with the help of a symphony orchestra on each and every song,” he says.

His first release of the year, “Serenity” follows Solomon’s 2021 holiday song “It’s Christmas” and dramatic songs like “Set Me Free.” The artist’s album is expected later this year.
