Rolling Stone India Pitch: Sergio Agüero Becomes Highest Non-British Goal Scorer in the Premier League

The Manchester City striker overtook Thierry Henry’s 175 goals with a hat trick over Aston Villa

Matchday 22 of the Premier League saw Manchester City register six past Aston Villa while league leaders Liverpool continued their winning run over Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester United and Chelsea both secured wins, while Arsenal were held to a draw.

This past weekend, Manchester City racked up the goals at Villa Park. The champions were 3-0 up inside the first 30 minutes. Pep Guardiola’s team added three more goals before full time including a Sergio Agüero hat trick which now saw the Argentinean striker overtake Thierry Henry as the highest non-British goal scorer in the league with 177 to his name. “Henry is one of the most incredible players that I have seen in this league, but I think he would be happy that Sergio is the guy who breaks his record,” Guardiola told Sky Sports. The City manager added, “He was a legend and Sergio is the same.”

Current league leaders Liverpool – who are now 16 points clear of Manchester City – have now gone a year undefeated in the Premier League as they beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in London. A Roberto Firmino strike was enough for The Reds to seal all three points. When asked about Liverpool getting their hands on the league title for the first time in 30 years, manager Jurgen Klopp said, “When someone gives you a trophy it is done but until then you need to fight. It is only the start. We need to continue because our contenders are so strong.”

Manchester United and Chelsea both got back to winning ways after picking up 4-0 and 3-0 wins over Norwich City and Burnley respectively. The Blues currently sit fourth in the table with United five points behind them in fifth. As for Arsenal, they were held to a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace after taking the lead through striker and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the first half.

Matchday 23 will see Watford play Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City host Crystal Palace, Sheffield United travel to Arsenal, Newcastle United entertain Chelsea, the mouthwatering clash between Liverpool and Manchester United takes place at Anfield and more.
