Readers can now design their own cover, a select few will make it to the website this month

This month, as ROLLING STONE India turns 5, we invite artists/ illustrators/designers and readers to create their own cover of the magazine. Starting today, we will feature cover art specially created for ROLLING STONE India’s Cover As Art Project.Â
Kicking off the series is a cover designed by Saurabh Chandekar. Chandekar, who is a Fine Arts graduate from Abhinav Kala Vidhyalaya in Pune, currently works as Creative Supervisor at Ogilvy & Mather. The young artist recently received rave reviews for his wasp-like illustrations of the Vespa at Mumbai’s Kala Ghoda Festival. Chandekar’s work that focuses on  intricate patterns to make up a bigger picture is available at web portal Crude Art and also on his site.

Talking about the idea behind his ROLLING STONE India cover, Chandekar says, “This work is a representation of an aura created by music and its effect on the universe. Elements of the illustration include different musicians, musical instruments, different avenues to generate music and the impact it creates on the universe. Colors and shades represent joy and peace that music brings about in the universe. The idea represents that all genres of music are interconnected; there is melody created individually as well as collectively, where one type of music works as an inspirational force for another. The element of nature in the illustration depicts that nature is a source of music as well as one that gets influenced by music. On the whole, music creates positive energy that spreads across the universe.”
Guidelines for ROLLING STONE Cover As Art Project:
 If an illustration of an international musician is being used, it will have to be an original piece of work. It cannot be a copy of an existing picture or an iconic picture as they might be copyrighted images.Â
The size of the cover is 27 cm (height) X 21 cm (width).
Indian motifs and a connection to music always work well for the cover art, although it is not mandatory for the cover to include an Indian theme.
