The Mumbai metal scene has proved its worth this year. The fifth edition of the Rolling Stone Metal Awards features five Mumbai bands among top nominees, with death metal band Reptilian Death leading with seven nominations across eight categories, including Best Band, Best Song and Best Album.

While Reptilian Death have gone from spoof metal band formed in 2001 to one of the most brutal death metal bands with their 2013 album The Dawn of Consummation and Emergence, it’s been a year of comebacks for other bands as well. Mumbai death grind band Gutslit overcame lineup changes and released their debut full-length album, Skewered In The Sewer, which gets six nominations, the same tally as symphonic black metal band Cosmic Infusion, who regrouped with a different lineup in 2012 and released their first ever self-titled EP last year. Bengaluru-based folk metal band The Down Troddence, who mashed crushing riffs and folk myths on their debut album How Are You? We Are Fine, Thank You also gain six nominations.

Another notable comeback in Indian metal came from Mumbai prog/hardcore metal band Reverrse Polarity, who released their self-titled album last year, and are nominated in four categories. Other big names nominated include Delhi groove/tech metal band Undying Inc., who gain three nominations for their single “Ironclad” and Mumbai groove/thrash metal band Zygnema, who have four nominations after they released their single “Shell Broken Hell Loose” in March.

Public voting in three categories ”“ Best Band, Best Album and Best Song ”“ is now open on the RSMA Facebook event page. Find out who will win big at the awards event, on June 22nd at Blue Frog, Mumbai.
