Some of the world’s biggest acts might be making their way down to India as early as next month, if their touring calendars are to be believed. Pop star Katy Perry and American pop rock band HAIM are listed on live music discovery platform Bandsintown to perform in Pune between June 23rd and June 30th at an event called “City of Rock” in Pune.
Also listed to stop by in Pune are Portuguese rock veterans Xutos & Pontapés, Brazilian singer Ivete Sangalo, Latin pop singer Anitta and Portugal-bred American hip-hop artist Mishalwi. All artists and dates coincide with one of the world’s biggest music festivals, Rock In Rio’s Lisboa edition, which takes place on June 23rd and 24th and again on June 29th and 30th. Anyone familiar with City of Rock will know its association with Rock In Rio, which hosts the biggest names in rock, pop and metal in Rio de Janeiro (since 1985) as well as branches in Madrid, Las Vegas and Lisbon.
The Lisbon edition includes rock acts Muse and Bastille, pop stars Bruno Mars, Jessie J and Demi Lovato and American rock act The Killers and electronic music pioneers The Chemical Brothers. Although some dates between the 23rd and 30th remain open on these artists’ calendar, their names do not currently appear in at City of Rock, Pune.
While it may seem like an announcement for Rock in Rio’s possible India sojourn would have been made much earlier (considering the lineup), there’s little doubt that a lineup of this scale””heat and possible rain notwithstanding””would not struggle to sell tickets. Stay tuned for more updates.
