Saahas Sings About His Los Angeles Experiences on Breezy New Single ‘California’

The track is off the singer-songwriter’s forthcoming EP 'The Grays'

At the top of the last decade, Bengaluru-bred singer-songwriter Saahas Patil – who goes by his first name – was plying his trade with pop-rock band Allegro Fudge. With the group, Saahas released multiple singles as well as an 11-track album titled Maximum City in 2011. “We toured the country, played a lot of gigs and it was just fun! I was a 19-year-old kid with no real knowledge of music being asked to play with these professionals,” says Saahas. He adds, “It was intimidating but I got to create music, and I still use those lessons today while writing and recording.”

After spending five years as the vocalist of Allegro Fudge, in 2015 Saahas received a scholarship from Musicians Institute in Hollywood and moved to the U.S. “I felt like there was music inside me that needed an outlet beyond what we were writing as a band,” he says. Currently working as a recording artist and songwriter in Los Angeles, Saahas is now out with his head bopping new song “California.”

According to the artist, the track was penned mostly about Los Angeles at a time he felt disillusioned about the “L.A. experience.” He says, “I’m at a more stable place now, but it’s great to have a song that takes you back to an important moment in your life.” The track features a groovy guitar riff by musician Rajan Cheliah while producer Navneet Rao’s indulgent sounds give the song a breezy summer feel. Saahas on his part shines with his catchy melodies and captivating voice. The song was recorded at Rao’s studio in Hollywood and also mixed and mastered by him.

“California” and Saahas’ 2019 single “Glad You Stuck Around” are both set to be included on the singer-songwriter’s forthcoming debut EP The Grays, which releases later this month. The artist tells us that he’s looking forward to the EP coming out and is already short-listing songs for his full-length album too. Away from his own material, Saahas is also working on collaborations. He adds, “I’d love to play live again. The plan is to do a tour in the U.S. and India once things open back up.”
