‘The Sabarmati Report’ Song ‘Tere Mere Darmiyan’ by Akhil Sachdeva Has Been in the Making for 7 Years
Singer, composer, and lyricist Akhil Sachdeva, known for his hits like “Humsafar” from Badrinath Ki Dulhania and “Tera Ban Jaunga” from Kabir Singh is back with two new songs – a reprise of 2006 Bollywood song “Tere Bin” (originally sung by star voice Atif Aslam) and “Tere Mere Darmiyan” from recently released political drama The Sabarmati Report.
The reprised version of “Tere Bin” – originally composed by Mithoon with lyricist Sayeed Qadri for the movie Bas Ek Pal in 2006 – has garnered over 5 million views since just over a week of dropping. “Tere Mere Darmiyan,” for its part, comes with a unique backstory. Sachdeva says filmmaker and producer of The Sabarmati Report Ekta Kapoor liked the emotive, tender love song back in 2015 and decided to keep it for a future project.
Sachdeva says, “I wrote and composed the mukhda and hook of ‘Tere Mere Darmiyan’ in 2015. I still remember sending a rough voice recording to Ekta Kapoor, and from the moment she heard it, she fell in love with the composition. She kept the song with the promise that whenever we collaborated in the future, we would use it. We’ve worked on so many projects together.”
Sachdeva went on to compose, write and sing “O Saajna” for the Kapoor-produced web series Broken But Beautiful Season 2 in 2019 but had to bide his time before “Tere Mere Darmiyan” came out. He says, “Since Ekta felt my voice suited Vikrant’s [Massey, actor] character, she thought of collaborating again for ‘Tere Mere Darmiyan’ in The Sabarmati Report to recreate that magic. I’m glad that after seven years, the song has found its place in such an important film, which is generating quite a buzz.” The song also brings in producer Vaibhav Pani, who has arranged the track.
