As Sagar Bhatia’s latest Reel is testament, the singer known for his Sagar Wali Qawwali concert series has gone from Jamnapaar (in North India) to Samundarpaar (overseas).

Bhatia is headed on his second North America tour within a year, performing in six cities between Aug.8 and Aug. 18. He says, “It’s always special performing in the States, but this time it’s more special as we just had our shows there a few months ago and the love we received made us return so soon.” The artist last performed in the U.S. and Canada in November 2023.

This time around, Bhatia will perform in New Jersey (Aug. 8), Chicago (Aug. 9), Atlanta (Aug. 10), Houston (Aug. 16), Dallas (Aug. 17) and Toronto (August 18). The international shows come on the back of performances around India, including a show in Mumbai during peak rains.

Bhatia also made his playback singing debut in July with the song “Khudaya” in Akshay Kumar-starrer Sarfira. He said in a statement during the track’s release, “Proud and ecstatic to reveal my Bollywood playback singing debut! This is a milestone I’ve always dreamed of. Sharing a piece of our heart with you.”

It was in 2020 during the pandemic that Bhatia turned to qawwali in earnest and since then, he’s been best known for Sagar Wali Qawwali, a show series that sees him bring new energy to the centuries-old music format. Since taking it live in 2022, Bhatia hasn’t looked back. Rather, he’s gone on to diversify his talents, from pop songs like “Waqt Badlega” to the love ballad “Teri Meri Kahaani.” His strength, still, has been qawwali, best known for songs like “Mera Ishq,” “Ishq Ch Kamli,” “Kaali Raat.” In February, Bhatia’s “Royi Hovegi” took some elements from lush pop as well as qawwali intensity to create a powerful song.
