The illustrator and visual artist celebrates the festival-goers as the real rockstars

Indian illustrator and visual artist Sameer Kulavoor’s area of work lies in the intersection of contemporary illustration, graphic design and art. He has been creating a personal body of work and self-publishing artbooks and zines that take a look at peculiarities in urban surroundings, design and culture. Sidewalks & Coffeeshops (2009), Zeroxwallah Zine (2011) and The Ghoda Cycle Project (2012) were born out of love for these peculiarities. He set up his studio Bombay Duck Designs in 2008. Kulavoor is known for his music related art and design projects having directed and designed animated music videos for ”˜Disconnected’ and ”˜Lovedrug Climbdown’ (from Pentagrams album Up-2004 and Bloodywood-2011), album art for Zero and Something Relevant, cover art for ROLLING STONE India, design, direction, illustration for Bacardi NH7 Weekender festival 2011 and 2012 and a number of motion graphic pieces for MTV India.
The Idea
India has seen some excellent music festivals/concerts in the last few years. And the audience is only growing. Gone are the times when bands were shooed away if they wouldn’t play covers. The Indian festival-goer appreciates and respects originality in music. My piece celebrates this spirit of the festival-goer. They are the real rockstars.
