Sanjana Devarajan Releases New Dreamy Melancholic Song ‘Nee Venda’
The track is the Mumbai singer-songwriter’s first release of 2023
After the release of her 2020 four-track debut EP Mood, Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Sanjana Devarajan put out a number of singles. Now, she’s back with a brand-new track, the pop-infused bilingual song (Hindi and Tamil) called “Nee Venda.” Devarajan says, “’Nee Venda’ started off as a trilingual song with Tamil, Hindi and English, with a lot more Tamil in it. But as we kept working on it, I realized that it’s best to keep it bilingual more because my Tamil is quite broken [laughs].”
The track includes lush and dreamy soundscapes while Devarajan’s breezy vocals make it quite the earworm. Through her lyrics, the artist sings about painful separation. She says, “The chorus means, ‘I don’t want you, you go. I’m enough for myself now.’” The song has been produced by Himonshu Parikh.
There’s also a music video released to accompany the track in which Devarajan is seen going through the ups and downs of a relationship. On putting the video together, she says, “I was nervous, throughout. But I had an incredible team that pulled off the entire shoot in 10 hours! I’m grateful and happy for this experience.”
Devarajan also recalls that in 2020, she performed “Nee Venda” for Mumbai guitarist-composer Ehsaan Noorani. “He complimented my voice and singing which in a lot of ways encouraged me and motivated me to push my limits,” says the singer-songwriter. She adds, “Before the release, I shared the song with Sir to get his inputs and he just said, ‘Lovely song Sanjana. It’s got hit potential, I really like it, it’s got a gorgeous hook and the singing is fab [sic].” Next, Devarajan is already lining up more music to be released which will be out soon.
