Proceeds from ceremony benefit Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund
Scorpions, who celebrated their 50th anniversary last year, and Metal Blade Records, who is celebrating its 35th year, are among those recently nominated for induction into the 2017 Hall of Heavy Metal History. Sunset Strip’s famed Rainbow Bar and Grill has also been added to the nominations list.
Hosted by Eddie Trunk, the ceremony takes place on January 18th at Anaheim Expo Center in Anaheim, CA. Dio Disciples and Ross “The Boss” Friedman are scheduled to perform. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund. Tickets are available via the Hall of Heavy Metal History’s website.
“The induction of Ronnie into the Annual Hall of Heavy Metal History is indeed an honor and I know Ronnie would have been very proud,” Wendy Dio said in a statement. “On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Ronnie James Dio Stand up and Shout Cancer Fund, we thank you for your support and donation. Every penny will go to cancer research and education, to hopefully one day find a cure for this horrible disease that takes the lives of so many of our loved ones.”
Previously announced 2017 inductees include Ronnie James Dio (Wendy Dio will accept the induction), Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister (manager Todd Singerman will accept the induction), Ross “The Boss” Friedman, Rudy Sarzo, Quiet Riot’s Frankie Banali, Vinny Appice, Deep Purple’s Don Airey, President/CEO of Sabian Cymbals Andy Zildjian and Randy Rhoads (Rhoads family members will accept the induction).
