Scott Weiland Found Dead In Tour Bus

Scott Weiland, once the frontman of grunge/alt rockers Stone Temple Pilots [STP], was found dead on his tour bus in Minnesota on December 3rd, TMZ reports. The vocalist, who also fronted rock supergroup Velvet Revolver with the likes of guitarist Slash, was on tour with his band, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts. More details about his death are yet to be confirmed.

Weiland fronted Stone Temple Pilots through their most successful phase in the Nineties, the voice behind hits such as “Plush,” “Vasoline,” “Big Empty” from their best albums Core [1992] and Purple [1994] .The band called time on their career after personal and professional altercations in 2002, following which Weiland went ahead and joined Velvet Revolver, alongside Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum. With a supergroup status, the band spawned chart-topping hits such as “Slither” and “She Builds Quick Machines.”

Weiland and STP put their differences aside and reunited in 2008, releasing their self-titled album in 2010, their first since 2001’s Shangri-La Dee Da. After continued tensions flaring up, the band announced in 2013 that they had fired Weiland and brought in Chester Bennington, from rap rockers Linkin Park.

By then, Weiland was already working on the Wildabouts’ debut album Blaster, which is now his final release. Weiland was called up regularly for his shoddy performances of classics as well as new material on his solo tour, with reviews of shows declaring that he “appears to have crashed and burned. Badly.”
