The fourth edition of the Rolling Stone Metal Awards brings Mumbai hardcore band Scribe to the stage, to play a headlining set on June 23rd at Blue Frog, Mumbai. Their last gig in the city was in October 2011, playing alongside alt metal band Goddess Gagged and Norwegian hardcore punk band Social Suicide. This month, Scribe joins black metallers 1833 AD, thrash metal band Devoid and Guwahati metal band Rectified Spirit on the RSMA 2013 lineup.

Busy working on their upcoming third album, Hail Mogambo, Scribe returns to play in Mumbai after two years. Bassist Srinivas Sunderrajan aka Vaas points out that Scribe has found a way to be a part of RSMA almost every other year. They performed at the first ever RSMA in 2010 alongside groove metallers Undying Inc and extreme metal band Demonic Resurrection. In 2011, vocalist Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy played host at the event, guitarist Akshay Rajpurohit gave away awards and guitarist Prashant Shah won the best guitarist award for brutal death metallers Exhumation. “RSMA is like homecoming. We were in school the last time and now we’re in college – third year to be precise. So it’s going to be special,” says Vaas, while Shah adds, “It feels great that the guys at RSMA decided to get us back. Rolling Stone cover plus this!”

The gig also marks Scribe’s Mumbai debut with new vocalist Gagan Gill. Although Vaas jokes that Gill is a tad anxious, the new vocalist [formerly of extreme prog metal band Petrichor] sounds quite confident of his performance. Says Gill, “Although this is going to be my first performance as I’ve just joined the band, I’m really excited. Mumbai crowd is always one of the best to play in front of.” While guitarist Rajpurohit adds that playing makes the band “feel like excited little bobos,” drummer Virendra Kaith jokes they should be awarded for their performance at the next Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards [we’re guessing one clean sweep wasn’t enough].

While Scribe would like to keep their stage act a surprise, Vaas adds that only vocalist Krishnamoorthy will be “acting.” The vocalist drops a possible hint when he says, “The feeling is amazing. Like the second coming of a dark, malevolent force of evil with a ring on each finger and pointy shoes. Hail Mogambo!”

We caught up with Scribe during their ROLLING STONE cover shoot last month, and they told us about Hail Mogambo and their new vocalist Gagan Gill. Watch below
