It’s been more than 150 years since author Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland came out and the story clearly holds allure, especially for rock and roll band La Need Machine.

Originating in Seattle, there’s a spirited rock and roll sound heard on their new album Killer Instinct, which released in November and now has a music video for the song “Herculean Tasks,” which revolves around a somewhat suburbanized version of Alice In Wonderland. There’s Alice, of course but also The Mad Hatter and the Red Queen all playing their roles in quirky fashion, with a bit of VFX to make things surreal as well as humorous.

Guitarist Al Dams says that it’s the most fun they’ve had filming a music video. “We are all huge Alice In Wonderland fans, so when Kyle [Hansen], our scriptwriter, came up with the idea of basing the video on it, we were all totally psyched! Especially Carly [Vergara, vocalist], who wanted to put her own take on Alice on film,” he says.  The video also features singer-actor Tim Noah as the Mad Hatter and scriptwriter Hansen putting on a bear costume that elicited all kinds of laughs behind the scenes. “He’s a natural comedian anyway, but when he put the costume on we all said, this has to be in the video. We could have had 20 more shots of Kyle because he was so funny, but it would have overshadowed Alice,” Dams says.

Killer Instinct, across 10 tracks of rock, power-pop and a bit of punk, is executive produced by Dave Hillis, whose engineering credits seminal albums like include Pearl Jam’s 10 and Alice In Chains’ “Would?” La Need Machine dig into all kinds of genres and influences across the rock spectrum on the album, inspired by the likes of The Who and Social Distortion. For anyone tuning in for the first time, the driving tunes could fit well right next to Indian rock and metal bands like Parikrama, Girish and The Chronicles and more.
