See Chris Martin Honor George Michael with Touching ‘Last Christmas’

Coldplay singer lends hand, performs at London homeless shelter

Coldplay singer Chris Martin honored the late George Michael with an impromptu performance of “Last Christmas” at a London homeless shelter earlier this week.

“A huge thank you to Coldplay’s Chris Martin for dropping by our Crisis at Christmas centres and entertaining our guests,” Crisis posted on Facebook along with a video of Martin’s performance.

In the clip, Martin unassumingly strums and sings along with a guest named Kevin who takes lead on Wham!’s classic seasonal hit, a touching tribute following Michael’s untimely death on Christmas day.

While there, Martin also pitched in, according to a volunteer in attendance named Matthew, who wrote on Instagram, “That moment when Coldplay’s Chris Martin drops into the Crisis at Christmas shelter, with no fuss, no fanfare and no press, to help make tea and coffee and also play guitar so guests can have a sing song.”

Last week, Martin also gave a surprise performance at a benefit for New York’s Bowery Mission, an organization that helps the homeless and hungry.
