Chris Stapleton gave fans a taste of his upcoming album during the 52nd ACM Awards, performing the song “Second One to Know.”
An incendiary rocker, the track was written by Stapleton with Mike Henderson, his onetime bandmate in the Steeldrivers, and serves as the first official hint of Stapleton’s new LP. Due May 5th, the record reunites the vocalist with producer Dave Cobb and serves as the follow-up to his 2015 breakthrough, Traveller.
Stapleton roared through the tune, biting into lyrics like “If you ever change your mind, wanna leave my love behind / Just let me be the second one to know,” before firing off a muscular solo.
The Grammy, CMA and ACM Award-winning Stapleton will launch his All-American Road Show Tour in May, a trek that extends through November and features a diverse array of opening acts, from Brent Cobb to Margo Price.
Stapleton is nominated for three awards at the 2017 ACMs: Male Vocalist; Video of the Year for the statement on mental illness, “Fire Away”; and Song of the Year for his version of “Tennessee Whiskey,” written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove.
