See Guns N’ Roses Bring Back ‘Used to Love Her’ at Coachella

"Classic" lineup also performs "Out Ta Get Me" for first time together since 1992, dedicates gig to Prince

Guns N’ Roses staged their second Coachella headlining gig Saturday, and while AC/DC’s Angus Young didn’t make a cameo this time, the “classic” lineup did welcome a pair of fan favorites back into the fold: For the first time since the reunion kicked off April 1st, GN’R performed “Used to Love Her” and Appetite for Destruction‘s “Out Ta Get Me.”

The performance of “Used to Love Her” marked the first time Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan had played the Lies cut together since their infamous July 17th, 1993 concert in Buenos Aires, their last show together before their 23-year breakup. The last “Out Ta Get Me” to feature that GN’R trio came in September 1992.

Like many of artists at Coachella this weekend, Guns N’ Roses honored Prince during their set. Rose admitted that the band didn’t have time to rehearse a Prince song to cover, but the legendary musician’s presence was still felt in the form of a purple “love symbol” decal on McKagan’s bass and a Rose anecdote about owning Purple Rain on laserdisc. The band also dedicated “Nightrain” and their Coachella set itself to Prince.

Rose will next join AC/DC as their new vocalist for 10 European dates before reuniting with the “classic” Guns N’ Roses for their Not in This Lifetime tour, which begins June 23rd at Detroit’s Ford Field.
