See Jelly Roll Join Limp Bizkit to Cover the Who at Welcome to Rockville

Country star plays the role of an angel summoned to save Fred Durst during band's rendition of "Behind Blue Eyes"

It’s been a season of unexpected, genre-crossing collaborations for Jelly Roll as — two weeks after the country star shared the Stagecoach stage with T-Pain — he appeared alongside Limp Bizkit Friday at Daytona Beach, Florida’s Welcome to Rockville Festival.

Both Jelly Roll and Limp Bizkit were on the lineup Friday, and during the latter’s set and their cover of the Who’s “Behind Blue Eyes,” frontman Fred Durst told the crowd repeatedly, “I need an angel to come out here and save me. Drop something from the sky. I don’t care what it is, drop anything, please sweet angel. Save your brother Freddy D!”

As summoned, Jelly Roll then appeared onstage with Limp Bizkit to deliver the song’s second verse:

Backstage, Durst kept the angel schtick going, as evidenced by an exchange the singer posted on Instagram.

“Once in a while, every once in a while, you get blessed and you run into an angel…,” Durst told the camera before panning to Jelly Roll, who quipped, “An oversized one, baby. And a black ball cap like Johnny Cash.”

The country singer has dipped his toe in rock music in 2024, first by covering Bon Jovi at a MusiCares gala for Jon Bon Jovi, and by his presence at rock-oriented festivals like Welcome to Rockville.

Following a summer on the road at music festivals, Jelly Roll will embark on his Beautifully Broken tour, a trek that will hit 37 arenas across North America later this year. That tour kicks off August 27 in Salt Lake City, Utah and runs through October 27 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
