See Panvi Podder’s Beautifully Sketched Music Video for Debut Single ‘Story to Tell’

The Gurugram-bred artist’s first song is an emotional acoustic ditty

Gurugram-bred, Ireland-based singer-songwriter Panvi Podder began her music training at the tender age of five. Singing along to Kishore Kumar and ABBA with her parents, Podder says, “I pursued lessons in Indian classical vocals for seven years and then developed a stronger affinity to western music since high school.” The artist went on to perform extensively at college festivals, and although she would enter the corporate sector as a Digital Marketer, music never took a back seat. “I’ve insisted to continue following my passion,” she says.

Now, Podder is out with her elegant debut single entitled “Story to Tell.” The singer-songwriter recalls writing the track in December 2020, when couples were spending a lot more time together at home due to the pandemic. She says, “Some enjoyed the period, while few faced adjustment challenges leading to disagreements, fights and eventually, emotional distancing.” The artist adds, “Such observations led me to think of the pressures looming large over our society since generations, about having to keep a mask on of ‘happily married’ regardless of a couple’s situation.”

Through her song, Podder attempts to recognize this societal pressure and stay optimistic that the protagonists are able to steady the ship they once sailed happily in. “The song ends on a hopeful note with each protagonist wanting to make amends and reaching out for a sign from their partner,” says the singer-songwriter. Sonically, “Story to Tell” has a pop-soul vibe that is mixed splendidly with the use of acoustic guitars as well as piano parts that make the track an emotional rollercoaster.

The singer-songwriter has also released a wonderful sketched music video made by Pooja Sreenivasan, that complements the song to the tee.

The recording and production process for “Story to Tell” has been spread across three continents. While Podder recorded her vocals at Ireland’s Tinpot Productions, the song was produced, mixed and mastered by U.S.-based Ananda Dhar-James. Delhi-NCR-based pianist Archit Anand also played on the track.

Podder tells us that she feels even more inspired after releasing her debut single. “I’m keen to revisit a couple of compositions from the past I never formally published,” she says. The artist has also been working on Hindi songs with her husband Agransh during their home jam sessions in Ireland. She says, “[They’re] currently half-baked, I’d love to formalize something from there.”
