See Pelican Shuffles’ Quirky New Video For ‘Dreams’
The track is off the Kolkata rock outfit’s 2019 EP ‘Battleground Dreams’
With two EPs under their belt, 2018’s All Shuffled Up and 2019’s Battleground Dreams, Kolkata rock outfit Pelican Shuffles recently decided to give their jumpy track from the sophomore record an eccentric visual. The band – comprising vocalist-guitarist Varun Gujadhur, bassist Subhomoy Mitra, drummer Aditya Dutta and guitarist-producer Rohan Ganguli – initially penned the track in 2006. Gujadhur says, “The vibe of the song changed a lot during all these years, which in some way helped the song to sound a little mature.”
“Dreams” features funky guitar strumming and a syncopated vocal melody to complement the fretwork while the groove sits in the right place creating a bounce effect as you listen to the song. Gujadhur says, “’Dreams’ is about a lazy afternoon or night, where you want to doze off and have a little dream, but even a simple rest turns into an inception themed part, where there is a dream within a dream.” Ganguli adds, “[It’s] one of the most unique songs I have worked on.”
The track’s strange yet vibrant video, made by Arjun Kar, symbolizes a bizarre and random dream that includes pizza, a car and a ball of thread. “We basically wanted to make the most weird video of all time,” says Gujadhur. With around 75 songs in their locker, Pelican Shuffles are planning on releasing an album soon while they also want to continue putting out videos. “Things may be a bit slow due to the pandemic but it definitely can’t stop us,” says Mitra.
