Cemetery-dwelling clowns, horny spiders fill band's animated clip for 'The Getaway' single

Red Hot Chili Peppers navigate a grotesque version of Los Angeles in the animated “Sick Love” video. The clip, directed and illustrated by singer-songwriter Beth Jeans Houghton, follows an Australian woman moving to Hollywood. Instead of fame and glamor, she finds the streets are lined with vomit, used condoms, creepy clowns hovering in a cemetery and, naturally, Satan.
The video grows more surreal after the woman falls in love with Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis. She drenches herself in green-colored “cow juice,” brushes her teeth until they fall out and after shapeshifting into a spider, decapitates the singer.
“Sick Love” highlights the Chili Peppers’ adventurous 11th LP, The Getaway, produced by Danger Mouse. The band is currently promoting the album with an expansive tour. Their next show is Monday, December 5th at London’s O2 Arena, and they launch a North American leg January 5th
