Young cast shreds on their instruments during live number
Alex Brightman and the young cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical adaptation of School of Rock performed the thrilling number “You’re in the Band” during the 70th annual Tony Awards. The show received four nominations for the night.
Webber introduced the performance before the Tonys stage turned into Horace Green School. Brightman, as “Mr. Schneebly,” enthusiastically auditioned each of the students for his new band, which will compete at the Battle of the Bands. Over the course of the song, each of the young, talented stars of the musical showed off their incredible skills as musicians, shredding the guitar, keys, bass and drums as their teacher also hires roadies and a manager.
Brightman, who tackles the role of Dewey Finn as made famous by Jack Black in the screen version, is nominated for Best Actor in a Musical while Julian Fellowes received a nod for Best Book of a Musical. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Glenn Slater were recognized with a nomination for the show’s score while the whole show is nominated for Best Musical.
