The group’s victory is their first-ever IFPI Global Charts Award, and they come in first place on the list amid other K-pop and international artists
IFPI, The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, has announced FML, SEVENTEEN‘s 10th mini album, as the winner of the IFPI Global Album Awards 2023.
Representing record labels globally, IFPI works to uphold record producers’ rights, increase the commercial use of recorded music, and raise awareness of its importance.
With FML securing the group’s first-ever IFPI Global Charts Award, SEVENTEEN has topped the Top 20 IFPI Global Album Chart 2023.
Lewis Morrison, IFPI’s Director of Global Charts and Certifications, was reportedly pleased to present the award to SEVENTEEN, given FML‘s exceptional worldwide performance and the band’s ongoing efforts to push the boundaries with their concepts, performances, and talent, according to an IFPI press release.
Over the years, SEVENTEEN—S. Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino—have steadfastly brought hope to light and grown in popularity due to their positive energy. The best example of this was FML, which, just two months after its release, sold above six million copies, making it the best-selling album in K-pop history. SEVENTEEN peaked at number one on the Artist 100, and FML opened at number two on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Top Album Sales and World Albums charts.
Aside from FML, SEVENTEEN’s follow-up 11th mini album, SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN, released in October 2023, ranked eighth on the IFPI Global Album Chart 2023. On the Billboard 200, it had previously peaked at number one, breaking K-pop’s first-week sales records, selling more than five million copies for the first time.
SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN is a fun musical riff on the phrase “Seventh Heaven,” celebrating the band’s and its fans’ achievements thus far. As part of their ongoing effort to spread the word about the value of hope and happiness found through community, SEVENTEEN extends an invitation to all listeners to partake in these shared moments of joy via the album.
In the IFPI Global Album Chart, together with SEVENTEEN, Korean acts made up five of the Top 10 albums, marking the best-ever showing for K-pop on international rankings. Stray Kids had two albums in the top 10 to their credit: 5-STAR at number two and ROCK-STAR at number nine.
NCT DREAM for ISTJ was at number six, while ZEROBASEONE for YOUTH IN THE SHADE and IVE for I’ve IVE were at numbers 18 and 20, respectively, alongside Jung Kook (BTS) appearing as a solo artist on the chart with his album GOLDEN, landing on number 14.
