A study from Delamere Rehab ranks 10 top artists whose music predominantly carries taboo references
We’ll be the first to admit that with a lot of the top mainstream music, the melodies and hooks take over our mind even before we can gauge the tangled mess of lyrics. When we get a bit older or just sensible enough to dig a bit deeper, the surprising realization dawns about the number of sexual innuendos hidden between the lines. It’s enough to feel embarrassed about our younger selves who perhaps screamed along to a very inappropriate song in the back of the family car.
As it turns out, there’s a whole host of artists notorious for all the best X-rated lyrics in their hits. A research development team from Delamere Rehab in Cheshire, United Kingdom, studied 200 artists across ten genres and revealed a list of top artists who refer to sex through some not-so-squeaky-clean lyrics throughout their music.
10. Lady Gaga
The American pop singer-songwriter and entrepreneur is best known for her flamboyant costumes and chart-topping pop hits like “Poker Face” and “Sexxx Dreams.” She landed in tenth place with a total of 20 references to sex in her lyrics.
9. DaBaby
Owing his sudden popularity among Gen Z to a viral meme on social media, rapper DaBaby made a total of 22 sexual references in his music, according to Delamere.
