These Top Artists Kiss And Tell!

A study from Delamere Rehab ranks 10 top artists whose music predominantly carries taboo references

Published by

We’ll be the first to admit that with a lot of the top mainstream music, the melodies and hooks take over our mind even before we can gauge the tangled mess of lyrics. When we get a bit older or just sensible enough to dig a bit deeper, the surprising realization dawns about the number of sexual innuendos hidden between the lines. It’s enough to feel embarrassed about our younger selves who perhaps screamed along to a very inappropriate song in the back of the family car.

As it turns out, there’s a whole host of artists notorious for all the best X-rated lyrics in their hits. A research development team from Delamere Rehab in Cheshire, United Kingdom, studied 200 artists across ten genres and revealed a list of top artists who refer to sex through some not-so-squeaky-clean lyrics throughout their music.

10. Lady Gaga

The American pop singer-songwriter and entrepreneur is best known for her flamboyant costumes and chart-topping pop hits like “Poker Face” and “Sexxx Dreams.” She landed in tenth place with a total of 20 references to sex in her lyrics.

9. DaBaby

Owing his sudden popularity among Gen Z to a viral meme on social media, rapper DaBaby made a total of 22 sexual references in his music, according to Delamere.

8. Cardi B

It may seem surprising, but the “WAP” and “Up” fame Cardi B has only made a total of 25 mentions about sex across her songs.

7. Ice Cube

O’Shea Jackson, who goes by the stage name Ice Cube, is an American rapper and actor and is one of the biggest contributors to the gangsta rap genre. He stood in seventh place for making a total of 26 sexual mentions in his tracks.

6. Kid Rock

Kid Rock is best known as the all-rounder musician of America, delving into country, rock, hip-hop and heavy metal. His discography includes 26 sexual allusions, tieing up with rapper Ice Cube.

5. Usher

The American singer-songwriter who got us all grooving to “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love” and “Yeah!” uses as many as 29 mentions of sexual intercourse in his songs.

4. Kiss

Landing in a tie with Usher, the classic hard rock and metal band famous for their outrageous face paint, other-worldly costumes and immersive live performances, Kiss also tallies a total of 29 sexual references.

3. Megan Thee Stallion

Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion is a feminist icon in her own unique way. Thanks to her exponential popularity as a pop idol among Gen Z on TikTok, her music propagates sex positivity. Delamere found out that Stallion uses 34 sex references in her music.

2. Rihanna

R&B artist and now entrepreneur Rihanna has always been a strong feminist icon in the music industry. Her inclusive lingerie and cosmetics brands only promulgate her ideology further. The Barbadian superstar’s sexual references tally stands at 39!

1. Nicki Minaj

The Queen of Rap Nicki Minaj tops the list with a whopping 43 references to sex within her lyrics. The Trinidadian rapper is one of the most influential female rappers and has given us hits like “Anaconda” and “Super Bass.” In addition, she has inspired numerous other women to foray into this male-dominated industry by being a fearless feminist idol.
