Earlier this month, EDM DJ Shaan Singh announced he had a signed a record deal with renowned label Casablanca Records, which operates under Republic Records.

The DJ – who has performed all around the globe, including the Belgian mainstay festival Tomorrowland in 2014 – joins a roster of electronic music heavy hitters at Casablanca. This includes the likes of Giorgio Moroder, Tiesto, Chase & Status, Wolfgang Gartner, Kavinsky and Martin Solveig, among others. The 24-year-old’s signing to Republic Records also means he’s now working with major label Universal Music Group, which owns Casablanca.

Shaan says in an email statement about what helped in clinching the deal, “It was 10 years of hard work I would say, that all built up to this deal. Every small moment and release worked together to connect the dots between different people and connections which lead to this moment. It doesn’t happen overnight. They believe in the music, in the story, and in the team! I can’t wait for 2020 especially with such an awesome set of people backing me!”

As son of Shailendra Singh, co-founder of Sunburn festival, Shaan did get an early boost performing since the age of 15, but this Casablanca deal arguably puts a more global spotlight on Shaan. He remains tight-lipped about any future releases to open his account with the label just yet. “You’ll have to wait and see. We’ve got a few releases, including remixes, lined up. But 2020 is super exciting for not just me but for the growth of the Indian music industry globally,” Shaan says.
