The song was announced by the U.K.-based Indian-origin producer Steel Banglez back in November

Sidhu Moose Wala‘s voice and legend status is cemented with the release of his new song “Mera Na” with Nigerian star Burna Boy and Indian-origin U.K. producer Steel Banglez. Among the first posthumous releases since the Punjabi star was murdered in a shooting in May last year, “Mera Na” comes with a video that collates tributes, memories and just how dearly Moose Wala is missed all over the world.
Steel Banglez and Moose Wala worked together in 2019 on the song “47,” and in 2021 on “IDGAF,” and “Signed to God,” but with the addition of Burna Boy, “Mera Na” lends itself to becoming a truly global hit within hours of its release. In the music video directed and edited by Navkaran Brar, there’s a bit of CGI to bring Moose Wala’s words to life from beyond, plus footage of the artist’s stardom at concerts and public engagements, including Canadian rap star Drake sporting a sweatshirt in Moose Wala’s memory at a concert.
The video also takes us to Burna Boy in the studio as he raps about his own journey and going worldwide, even singing the hook “Mera Na.” Banglez incorporates a flute melody that is entwined with Moose Wala’s powerful and distinctive vocals. Part hip-hop, part Punjabi pop and all heart in its intent, “Mera Na” closes with the affirmation that “legends never die.”
It was in November last year that Steel Banglez and Burna Boy met with Moose Wala’s parents and announced their plans to release “Mera Na,” which translates to “my name” in Punjabi. On April 3rd, Steel Banglez announced the release of the song via Instagram. He said about the song, “My brother @sidhu_moosewala I remember when we first recorded this song at my studio and you told me I would never forget it. At the time I didn’t understand what you meant by that, but now myself and the whole world will know. Me and your brother the African giant @burnaboygram made this our priority to get ‘Mera Na’ out worldwide in loving memory for you, your family and the fans. I feel so blessed and honoured to have two of the biggest icons in the world on one record together. Fusing two cultures to create the monster record that is ‘Mera Na’ (Your Name Lives Forever).”
