Singer-Producer MADM and Guitarist Ten Purr Collab On Bobbing Single ‘Electric Flu’

The track features luxuriant textures and smooth guitar lines

After releasing her 2017 self-titled debut album, Chennai-bred singer-producer Sanjana Rajnarayan aka MADM moved to Mumbai to learn music production from the city-based True School of Music. It was at the music school where she met guitarist Purnet Moirangthem aka Ten Purr. “What started off as casual canteen conversations led to several impromptu jam sessions,” says MADM. The artists have cooked up a groovy electro-pop offering titled “Electric Flu,” which was released last month.

According to MADM, “Electric Flu” was initially only a beat with a few basic layers and melodic ideas. She says, “There was an instant connection with Ten Purr with the way he saw, heard and felt music.” The guitarist laced the track with his silky fretwork and played what sounded like “butter” as MADM puts it. She adds, “The riff cascaded onto the phrasing of the melody and then there was no turning back.”

The track itself talks about the feeling of solitude that comes from seeking validation. MADM explains, “How we as people seek validation from those who don’t dare give it to us, paying no heed to those who love us without question.” Although the track has a melancholic theme, sonically there is optimism in the music as both artists flirt with dreamy soundscapes and bright melodies.

MADM has more collabs in the pipeline, with her time in lockdown facilitating more music and working with different people. Ten Purr, for his part, has used the lockdown to work on as much solo material as he can and plans on putting out songs from these sessions next year. He’s also got his band Peach Envy’s debut EP due to release in the coming months.
