Premiere: Singhsta Makes a Stomping Comeback on ‘Foreign’

The Punjabi artist’s first official release in about two and a half years is all about the global outlook but being desi at heart

Emerging from a break of sorts, Singhsta dives right into it with his new song “Foreign,” released via the label Adyah Music. A music video for the track is slated to be out tomorrow, March 8th.

Written, sung and produced by the Punjabi artist who earned fame after working with the likes of Yo Yo Honey Singh (“Billo Tu Agg,” “Billionaire” and “Gaddi Neevi,” among others) and releasing “Modern Ranjha” in 2021, Singhsta’s “Foreign” comes about two years since his previous solo release. Although he did have a surprise birthday release “Mazaak Ae?” in January this year and a collaboration with singer Neha Kakkar on “Massla” in 2023, “Foreign” marks a return.

He says about his time away from the industry, “This was a break I took. After two and a half years I’m releasing a solo song. I never wanted to take a break and make a comeback. I wanted to keep releasing music, but you know what they say, ‘Bhagwan ki timing aap takeover nahi kar sakte hai’ (you can’t overtake god’s timing). I really believe that god has taught me some things and I’ve had to learn.”

In the time he spent away, Singhsta says he worked on his craft and “nourished” his lyrics and art. He adds, “I met a lot of people and learned a lot of things. In my personal life too, I got a reality check and saw a lot of people change. After all this, I feel the time has come to set the stage on fire.”

To that end, “Foreign” is the apt vehicle with its roving sound that’s club-friendly and hip-hop-oriented. The message behind the Punjabi song is simple. Singhsta says, “There’s a basic thought behind this song – as Punjabis and desis, we love to wear bling, we love to drive fancy cars, we love to wear fancy clothes even if our bank accounts are empty. We speak Punjabi but everything else is foreign-made, from cars to pants to our scents, everything from top to bottom is foreign.”
