The musicians of Skinny Alley have been playing a variety of musical genres, spanning decades and several bands all over India and the world, since the ’70s. Skinny Alley the concept, and the band, came into being in March 2001. They named themselves for the patli galli, the proverbial Indian escape route.

Escape has continually proven itself a significant element in their work. Their first album, Escape The Roar, came out in 2003. Their songs reflect the band’s background in genres ranging from rock and roll to reggae, funk to fusion, jazz-inflected pop to the blues.

In the meanwhile, their live acts take them everywhere, from college campuses to coffee houses, from football stadia, to gangster family rooftop weddings. Jazz concerts, disco marathons, rock festivals, corporate launches, formal dinner-dances, resort parties – you name it, they’ve played it.

They possess a huge repertoire that caters to a wide range of ages and musical tastes. Known to entertain everyone from noisy teens, to smooth, sophisticated audiences and chilled-out resort guests, Skinny Alley brings it all, all the time.

Their second album, Songs From The Moony Boom, was recorded in the “Moony Boom”, a 12’x12′ rehearsal space in Gyan and Jay’s home, on a soon-to-be defunct 8 track machine. Out in Jan 2008, the album was markedly live, loud and totally lo-fi. Needless to say, the neighbours haven’t been too pleased.
