A conversation between two people in the throes of attraction, complete with playful laughter and forthright feelings channels producer Skopos’ new song “Fire Pleasure Lightning.”

New Delhi-based Skopos aka Lakshay Nanda teams up with singer-songwriter Ambreesh Parthasarthy aka Umbreeze as well as vocalist Zinnia Chaturvedi for the follow-up to his EP Magic & Pasta with fellow producer Jay Rana. Incidentally, Skopos says “Fire Pleasure Lightning” was almost intended to fit on the cinematic, lo-fi hip-hop and jazz-informed Magic & Pasta. “It has an R&B tonality,” the producer says. The new song is released via Paradigm Records.

Umbreeze says he wrote the lyrics keeping in mind a potential dalliance. “It’s about the palpable tension you feel when you meet someone and think something’s going to happen. Instead of talking about what you feel, it’s more about where you want to go with it. It’s about that electricity of the first interaction,” he says. It marks Umbreeze’s debut collaboration, even though he’s released R&B songs like “Gertie” and “Moses” earlier this year. “This is a new sound I’m exploring,” the artist says.

For Chaturvedi, “Fire Pleasure Lightning” is her second release, following the 2020 pop collaboration “Hear Me Now” with New Delhi producer duo Aurora Liights. She wrote her verse for this song after Umbreeze’s parts had come in. “I knew it had to be a POV sort of thing. I’m describing the same thing from my point of view. It was something like lust at first sight,” she says.

The track was mixed and mastered by producer Bharg Kale, who elevates the vocal-centric R&B/lo-fi tune. Offered up with an animated lyric video by illustrator Sasta Acid aka Parikshit Singh, there’s also a reference to the striking artwork by visual artist Anukriti Saha.
