Sky Rabbit Set To Play Jack Daniel’s Rock Awards

Vocalist Raxit Tewari and guitarist Rahul Nadkarni spoke to ROLLING STONE INDIA about their first time playing and attending the Jack Daniel’s Rock Awards, and all the anticipation that goes with it.

Sky Rabbit is nominated this year amongst an assortment of other bands that they themselves are smitten with. “Pentagram’s album was fun. “ Says Nadkarni, and Tewari agrees, adding “Bloodywood (Pentagram), Easy (Menwhopause), and Sinema (Peter Cat Recording Co.) were all great listens. In fact, everyone who made first-rate music this year is on the JD list of nominees”

Their song, ”˜I Become I,’ is nominated in the best song category. Tewari recalls the making of the song: “It involved a loop on the computer, a guitar, a voice and a chair which Rahul and I shared intermittently”

Nadkarni adds, “It was one of the earliest songs we wrote, I think, and it was right after we’d broken into the macrocosm of programming and sampling. I think we wrote the scratch at Raxit’s house, and it started with a beat he made on fruity loops. There was an acoustic guitar lying around, so we started putting it together right then. The beat and bass line have both metamorphosed down the line, though”

And down to the fast-approaching Jack Daniel’s Rock Awards. “Oh, we’re definitely looking forward to it”, says Tewari.  “I’m really looking forward to seeing the other bands play their sets.”  For Nadkarni, these awards are his first. “I can’t wait to play that night. Actually, it’s what I’m awaiting the most.”

Besides Best Song, Sky Rabbit is also nominated for Best Vocalist, Best Bassist and Best Drummer. The band’s eponymous album is now available.

The Jack Daniel’s Rock Awards takes place on 24 February, at Mehboob Studios in Mumbai. Indus Creed, Ankur & The Ghalat Family and Sky Rabbit will perform live.
