Something Relevant

Feels Good 2 Be Live Universal [Three stars]

Published by

This album has been quite a wait, considering the Mumbai-based band kept pushing its release. Something Relevant has always worked great as a live band but not everything translates as well into the studio. The ambient, drawling guitar notes loosely floating on the opener ”˜Mr Invisible’ feels like it might lead to Chris Isaak breaking into ”˜Wicked Game,’ and despite Azin Printer’s vocal ministrations in trying to bring it up speed. The song hits a bland on a boring/forced jam ”“ Sixties’ guitar and Doors-y solos on keys. ”˜Horn OK Please’ their bit on a traffic jam passes some. With Ryan Sadri finally cracking some ear smacking phrases on his sax, keeping splendid time with the band, finally seems more than just a careless frill, the funk fiesta begins with ”˜Aha’ and the album start’s to build a case for itself. Though ”˜Eddy on a Roll’ one of their most mesmerizing tracks played on a different time signature than the version they first put up on their myspace page, doesn’t work the same magic. ”˜Harry Mole’ which routes some smooth slow rolling blues, is perhaps one of the finest tracks on this record.
