Reviving the euphoria of teen romances and high school crushes, K-pop soloist Somi returns with her latest pop-synth anthem, “Dumb Dumb.”  Powered by an addictive whistle hook and signature choreography, “Dumb Dumb” is a song from the journal of a young high school girl trying to woo her love interest.

Produced by Black Label’s founder Teddy Park, R.TEE, 24 and Dominsuk, the track also features Somi as a co-writer along with Teddy and Danny Chung, giving fans a better understanding of Somi’s artistry.

Inspired by the teen dramas of 2000s, the music video opens with Somi practicing different facial expressions in front of the mirror to nail on the one look that will charm her crush, ” I practice again in front of the mirror/ Open your eyes wide/ You will like this look/ How can I make it look more fragile and neat?” The music video creates an a cinematic atmosphere with Somi seizing every opportunity to charm her dreamy love interest with the support of her loyal friends.

Sonically, “Dumb Dumb” sticks to a pop-synth approach with the chorus featuring a whistle hook sandwiched between trap beats. As the song progresses, Somi switches her style through a rap verse, “Nah I ain’t got time for that/ Tried to act the part and rewind it back/ Over and Over, shows over, take or leave/ It’s make love or make believe.” Staying true to the romantic-comedy rule book, the music video ends with Somi finally making an impression, concluding the song in high spirits.

Former member of the girl group I.O.I, Somi made her debut as a soloist with the 2019 hit, “Birthday.” The following year, Somi returned with her co-written and co-produced single, “What You Waiting For.”
