Every once in a while we all have a moment where we find a hidden gem of an artist and think, ‘here’s someone who should be on the entire world’s radar’– and that’s exactly what comes to mind while listening to “Rollercoaster” by Gemini.

“Rollercoaster” is part of the South Korean R&B artist’s dreamy new seven-track EP, Still Blue. The entire record is a lush collection of old-school blends of R&B, electro-synth and alt-rock, reminiscent of the late Nineties and early 2000s–an era of R&B we all desperately needed back in our lives. “Rollercoaster” is one of the most fascinating pieces of production on the EP, grounding itself with a Nirvana-esque, grungy bass riff and gritty synths and percussion that compliment Gemini’s smooth vocals.

The lyrics outline a frantic need to escape a dizzying, rollercoaster-like relationship as Gemini sings, “It make me feel like rollercoaster/ Movin’ up and down/ I wanna get away/ Same thing different day/ Why don’t you let me breathe/ I’m just always running/ There’s no romance here.”

The music video is a glorious dive into the Y2K rave scene, featuring Gemini roaming a club in a haze of neon pink and blue, haunted by a mystery woman. Her face remains hidden as she teases him with whispers and then disappears, leaving him desperate to find her (or perhaps escape from her.)

Known for his breezy and seductive brand of R&B, Gemini debuted in 2020 with the single “Going.” The South Korean singer-songwriter and producer has since made a name for himself through striking collaborations with prominent Korean names like Jay Park, Woodz, Seori, pH-1 and more, as well as his nostalgic style of production. Still Blue serves as the follow-up to Gemini’s 2021 star-studded EP, Inside Out.
