When it comes to releasing soulful hits that tug at your heartstrings, South Korean R&B artist GSoul is perhaps one of the first artists you think of. Making yet another worthy addition to the singer’s growing discography of smooth, sensual hits comes his February 2022 track “Need You (Outro).” Serving as an extension to GSoul’s all-English EP Natural, the single was released a few days before the singer announced his European tour with a show in London and Paris alongside Korean artists OCEANFROMTHEBLUE and Woogie.

Co-written by GSoul and Park Sung Jun, “Need You” is a smooth R&B- alternative rock record, loaded with rich guitar riffs and punchy percussion arrangements. Blended with synth sounds and GSoul’s dulcet vocal delivery, the single expresses delicate sentiments of romance and longing – an emotional arena GSoul recognizes through and through. The mix of rich falsettos and vocal delivery in the lower range heightens the sensual ambiance of the single, allowing listeners to grasp the sincerity and passion the singer-songwriter brings to the record.

Coming from a place of honesty,  GSoul’s “Need You” examines the power of vulnerability in a relationship. Wearing his heart on his sleeve, the protagonist expresses his commitment to the relationship; “You know what I do/ Please be with me ’cause I need you/ Just stay with me ’cause I need you/ Tell me I’d do anything but/ You’re too stuck in hesitation.” Brewing in the distance is a concoction of anguish and helplessness which GSoul beautiful pens down in the refrain: “You know what I do/ Please stay with me ’cause I want you/ Please be with me, what would I do?/ What would I do?” It is this drunken daze of inexplicable romance and angst which makes “Need You” your Sunday evening jam session companion.

“This song was originally like a freestyling jam session outro, and I thought it’d be great to add as the last track to the EP” GSoul expresses the making of “Need You.” He continues, “I’m happy that it made it to the Natural LP as a bonus track.”

Following his return from military service towards the end of 2019, GSoul made a comeback with the EP called “Hate Everything” on December 11th, 2019. To date, the album has surpassed over 20 million streams overall and strongly holds an average of 1.1 million monthly streams solely on Spotify. The EP’s viral, breakthrough single of the same title captured BTS Jung Kook’s attention who gracefully covered the track on his Instagram. In return, GSoul covered Jung Kook’s original track “Still With You”- a track the pop star specially penned down and sang for the BTS ARMY.
