Mumbai flutist Rajeev Prasanna pays tribute to the memories he had with his dog Furry on the instrumental folk-leaning song of the same name as his pet. “Furry” includes a nostalgic-sounding flute melody and also features the production touch of Udit Saxena and deft guitar work by Abhishek Dasgupta. In a statement, Prasanna said, “This song narrates that love is unconditional and has no boundaries. For me, ‘Furry’ is an emotion that goes beyond the depths of one’s love in the most selfless form. This song transpires me to the various moments and memories I cherish with my Furry.”

Nidhi Wagle – “Wish I Got More Time”

Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Nidhi Wagle’s ode to her family dog Yuki comes in the shape of the piano-aided “Wish I Got More Time.” Wagle’s emotive vocals and lyrics strike a chord with the listener as she paints a beautiful picture of moments she shared with her pet. In a statement, she said, “My family and I lost our pet dog, Yuki. Last year I wrote a song about her and how it felt to let her go, highlighting all the feelings that follow loss such as hopelessness, anger, frustration, loneliness and so much more.”

Siddharth Basrur – “For Nell”

Household indie name, Mumbai vocalist-guitarist and songwriter/producer Siddharth Basrur released a beautiful acoustic ditty in 2021 titled “For Nell,” an ode to his dog. The track features bright guitar strumming and harmonica parts while Basrur’s touching voice sings of love and adoration for his pup who at the time turned four. The musician also released a video to go with the tune that includes clips of his loving doggy alongside Basrur and his family. In a statement, the artist said, “Four years ago, this bundle of joy was born, and shortly after that, she entered our lives. We couldn’t be more grateful.”

Shilpa Natarajan – “Oshi”

Chennai singer-songwriter Shilpa Natarajan released the dynamic “Oshi” in 2020. The song showcases Natarajan’s splendid vocals which rests on elegant piano parts. The song opens up as it progresses with acoustic guitar strumming and a delicate groove. In a statement, the artist said, “The song talks about ‘Oshi’, an Indian domestic shorthair who was more than just a feline in my life. She was my everything. She passed away in 2019 and it has taken me quite a while to get around expressing how I felt and continue to feel about her and what an impact she had on me and my life.”

Tamil artists, singer Madhav Krishna and composer Prateek Gandhi, joined forces in 2021 to collaborate on the upbeat pop track “Ennodu Vaa.” Although the song has pop production elements attached to it, the vocals are somber and evoke a sense of wistfulness. Siliguri rapper artist Xenon Phoenix wears his heart on his sleeve on the melancholic and reflective hip-hop 2021 track “Yesterday.” The song is an ode to the rapper’s late dog Julia and also features the silky vocals of Guwahati artist Jennifer Rabha and the production touch from Kris Kaop. In a statement, Xenon Phoenix said, “Yesterday is dedicated to the lost ones who lost someone they loved in 2021 just like I lost my best friend. I hope you relate to this.”
