Sooraj Bishnoi’s music video for “The Actor,” off his debut album Here We Go [2019] depicts a somewhat dramatic tale of a young artist seemingly entrapped and misguided in the music industry’s mechanisms.

Released in February, the video has surprisingly hit over a million views on YouTube, with the Mumbai-bred, Hollywood-based singer-songwriter calling it a “major milestone.” Bishnoi says in a statement, “It’s been a remarkable journey of learning and evaluating the response to my music. As a result, I’ve been working on a few more things – there are definitely some new songs in the works.”

In the meantime, Bishnoi has wrapped up shooting music videos for two more tracks off Here We Go – “3am Conversations” and “One Last Dance.” He adds, “‘3am Conversations’ is about what the title says exactly — the intimacy, warmth and fluidity of a conversation had with someone over the phone at three in the morning, while ‘One Last Dance’ is a fun, peppy number that’ll get everyone’s feet tapping.”

Still in major lockdown mode in California, Bishnoi says he’s also attempting to collaborate with other musicians online. “Basically try and get back into a jam room without being in a jam room. It’s a fun experience and I hope something good comes of it.” During the lockdown, Bishnoi did perform via livestream for a COVID-19 fundraiser, but also expressed an interest to get into teaching music. That’s taken shape at the moment, although in a limited but comfortable capacity. “I’ve been giving a few select friends some lessons in vocal technique, songwriting, music production and arrangement. I’m testing my lesson plans out on my ‘victims’ (cue evil laugh) and if things seem good, I might just scale it up to bring online teaching into the fore. But that’s a plan for a little later,” he says.
