Soulmate

Soulmate is a blues rock band from Shillong that formed in early 2003. The band mainly comprises Tipriti ”˜Tips’ Kharbangar (Vocals and Guitar) and Rudy Wallang (Guitar, Vocals and songwriter), teaming up with session musicians when they go on tour. Kharbangar is considered one of the best female singers from Shillong and Wallang is one of the most respected blues guitarists in India. Soulmate was the only blues band to represent India at 23rd International Blues Challenge organized by The Blues Foundation of America, in Memphis, Tennessee ”“ performing first in February 2007 and for the second time in 2010. They were semi-finalists in 2010 and performed at The Rum Boogie Café and Ground Zero in Memphis alongside 150 other bands and musicians from all over the world.

Soulmate has performed in many prestigious festivals like International Jazzmandu Festival in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2004, 2005 and 2008, Mosaic Music Festival Singapore in 2009, Du World Music Festival in Dubai 2011,  Harley Rock Riders Season III in Bengaluru in 2012, Maximum India Festival at Kennedy Center in Washington DC in 2011 and Jakarta Blues Festival in Indonesia in 2009 and 2010, among others. They opened for rock legend Carlos Santana at the Formula One Rocks, 2012 event in Delhi. At the Jack Daniels Rock Music Awards in 2009, Kharbangar won the Best Female Vocalist award while Wallang  bagged the trophy for Best Guitar Player. The band has two albums, Shillong and Moving On and is in the process of releasing their third album.
