The first song off his upcoming EP ‘Digitalover' explores relationships in the Internet age
Inspired by the likes of Justin Bieber and Post Malone, Chandigarh singer-songwriter Sparsh Dangwal crafts a succinct new pop song with “She/Her,” produced by Tweaktone.
The opening track from his upcoming EP Digitalover, Dangwal is singing predominantly about online relationships and how complex things can get in the midst of it all. Drawing from his own experiences, songs like “She/Her” specifically talk about being in a “one-sided relationship, where one realizes that their partner is in it only because of their fame or lifestyle.”
In under two minutes, Dangwal sums up his feelings and it’s understandably nuanced. He extends that sentiment when asked about whether he takes an optimistic or skeptical look at online relationships in life. “As much as I hate social media, I love it too. It’s a part of our lives now,” he says. “But then I have also dealt with anxiety because of these devices because someone didn’t reply to my texts as fast as I do for them, or someone left me on seen and now I have my brain going into that overthinking overdrive making scenarios,” Dangwal adds.
The charming, buoyant disposition on “She/Her” is juxtaposed with the heartbreak that Dangwal goes through and there’s more where that came from on Digitalover, which will be out song by song through the coming months. Across five tracks, including songs like “Crazy” and “Vibe Killer,” the artist gets into thoughts about life experiences that have often only occurred online. “Every song sounded like a single to me so I decided to put out one song a month. There is a song called ‘Scrolling’ which reflects on my addiction to mindless scrolling and getting anxious because of it. Another one is called ‘Screenshot’ which is quite a fun track talking about my ‘adventures’ with Snapchat!” the artist says.
Dangwal is leaning much more into pop now, following the release of his song “Deja Vu” in 2022, featuring fellow Chandigarh pop artist Semwal. “It made me realize I can also make pop bangers,” he adds. “She/Her” follows Dangwal’s birthday-timed ruminative single “24,” which was out in January. Up next from the EP, he’s lining up “Scrolling” in March and four more songs all the way until June.
There are collaborative singles also coming out later in the year. “I have been blending my pop English stuff with some Hindi and Punjabi artists and they have been sounding damn cool, so I am excited to put them out later this year after the EP,” Dangwal adds.
