Last year on his birthday, Panna, Madhya Pradesh-based singer-songwriter Srajan Yaduvanshi covered Norwegian DJ Alan Walker’s track “On My Way.” To Yaduvanshi’s surprise, his version was shared by Walker online. Similarly, he’s done covers of Owl City’s “My Everything” and singer-composer Akhil Sachdeva’s “Tera Ban Jaunga,” which have also been shared by the artists on social media. Yaduvanshi says, “After all these things happened, I thought I should start making my own music and began releasing singles.”
Now, the musician is out with his latest bilingual vibey track, “Sidways,” featuring American pop band Hot Chelle Rae’s guitarist Nash Overstreet. Yaduvanshi has been a fan of the group ever since he heard their 2011 smash hit “Tonight Tonight.” The singer-songwriter and Overstreet kicked off a friendship in 2018 through Instagram and Yaduvanshi says, “I asked him during the COVID-19 lockdown if he wants to collab on a multi-language song with me he immediately said yes.”
“Sideways” includes R&B and pop flavors, vocal harmonies and melodies as well as verses in both Hindi and English. According to Yaduvanshi, the track is about intimate love, feelings and getting closer to someone else. “The fun fact is that Nash and I never talked on a call about it [making the song], it all happened on texts.”
Currently, Yaduvanshi is working on multiple concurrent projects which include an upcoming EP and full-length album too. The musician – who also mixes and masters his own songs out of his home studio – says, “I’ve decided to release at least one single per month.”
