Art-rocker released her acclaimed fourth studio album 'St. Vincent' earlier this year
St. Vincent has shared the magnetic, galaxy-spanning music video for “Birth in Reverse.” The clip, directed by frequent collaborator Willo Perron, finds art-rocker Annie Clark displaying her trademark robot stage moves, blinking ominously into the camera and shredding a malfunctioning modem-style solo against a backdrop of smoke and stars.
Clark first shared the elastic “Birth in Reverse” as a free download in December, paired with the announcement of her fourth studio album St. Vincent. More recently, the LP came in at Number Four on Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Albums of 2014 list, while its space-rock closer, “Prince Johnny,” was ranked the year’s 44th best song.
St. Vincent was recently nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the 57th annual Grammy Awards, alongside Alt-J’s This Is All Yours, Arcade Fire’s Reflektor, Cage the Elephant’s Melophobia and Jack White’s Lazaretto. Clark is the only female nominated in the category, with Sinead O’Connor the last woman to win the award in 1991. The 2015 ceremony will air Sunday, February 8th on CBS.
“I’m always pushing myself,” Clark told Rolling Stone in February. “Not just trying to imitate the old rock lexicon, which I love dearly and know intimately, but trying to chase down what I imagine.”
