On the one-year anniversary of Scott Weiland’s death, the surviving members of Stone Temple Pilots penned a remembrance of their late lead singer.

“Here we are. A year has passed since you’ve been gone,” the band wrote on their website. “We often think of you and are reminded of you daily with many memories. Then there is the music the four of us carved out allowing us to listen and feel how brilliant you are.”

Weiland died December 3rd, 2015 from an accidental overdose of cocaine, ethanol and MDA. The singer passed in his sleep on a stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, where he and his band the Wildabouts were touring in supporting of their new LP Blaster.

Weiland served as Stone Temple Pilots’ lead singer from 1989 to 2002 before splitting with the band to work with Velvet Revolver. Weiland rejoined STP in 2008 ”“ resulting in a self-titled album ”“ before he was fired from the group in 2013.

“There was a time when we looked up to one another,” Stone Temple Pilots continued. “Each of us wanting one another’s approval. The songs we wrote had to have complete impact on us in order for them to shine. When it did”¦ it was unearthly. Perhaps you are in a place now to better describe it. We miss you Scott.”

Six months after Weiland’s death, and seven months after Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington ended his two-year tenure with STP, the remaining members announced they would hold auditions to fill the role of Stone Temple Pilots singer. The band has not announced who would be joining the group as their new vocalist.
