From tracking live drums at Chennai’s top studio Krimson Avenue to settling for a jam room to record vocals, Chennai hard rock band 83 Miles Per Hour have been on quite a ride to release their debut self-titled EP.

The four-track EP, which released on January 12th online, follows the story of a “crazy guy” protagonist who crashes his car, sustains head injuries that lead him to be admitted in an asylum. The protagonist escapes from the asylum only to end up in a bar drinking. That’s a lot of rock clichés to take in, but drummer Peter Francis Joshua assures us that the music matches up. Says Joshua, “We originally wanted six or seven songs on the EP, but they were newer songs.”

83 Miles Per Hour, one of the winners at Ray Ban Never Hide Sounds in 2012, took a year to record the EP, but promise they’ll be out with a nine-track full-length album by the end of the year. Currently, they’re looking out for an EP launch gig. Says Joshua, “It depends on the promoters and honestly, Chennai doesn’t have enough promoters right now. We’re planning an EP launch gig at the end of the month in Bengaluru.”
