Chennai alt/funk rock band deliver an ode to their city on their new single
The Chennai scene is on a high right now, with new music series [Purple Fest], more regular gigs and bands [such as The F16’s, Adam And The Fish Eyed Poets] plotting new releases this year. One of those bands is alt rockers Franks Got The Funk, who have released their euphoric, celebratory song about Chennai on their new single, “Land of the Dreamer.” The single is part of the band’s debut full-length album, The Next Level, due later this year in September.
The song, which has already racked up nearly 7,000 plays on SoundCloud, features an electro-fused chorus about Chennai’s diversity from vocalist Bjorn Surrao, as guitarist Merwyn Christopher throws in a lead solo at the peak of the song. “Land of the Dreamer” was written as part of a songwriting competition at the Indo-German Urban Mela in Chennai in August last year.Â
