DJ and broadcaster Gilles Peterson from online radio station Worldwide FM is also partnering and will interview the winners
A new fund of ₹10 lakh will be given to “one Indian music community” as part of Studio Monkey Shoulder, a partnership between malt scotch whisky brand Monkey Shoulder and online radio station Worldwide FM, founded by DJ and broadcaster Gilles Peterson.
Applications for Studio Monkey Shoulder – which also extends to include communities in the U.K., U.S., Taiwan and Nigeria along with India – opened on April 2nd and will close on May 9th. The goal of the initiative is to empower and celebrate “grassroots music communities at the heart of music scenes around the world,” according to a press release.
The release adds, “From independent record stores to live venues and radio stations, we want to support the trailblazing communities where people connect, create and discover music.” The applications will be looked over by Worldwide FM and Studio Monkey Shoulder’s teams, in order to award “one Indian music community, collective or music organization, the fund to bring an original project to life this summer.”
The pre-requisites for applying to Studio Monkey Shoulder stipulate that the participants’ age must be over 25 years old and based in India. An optional one-minute introduction video or voice message is also expected.
The scope includes “project development, production assistance, content creation and creative inspiration.” The winners will also get a global broadcast via Worldwide FM, with winners interviewed by Gilles Peterson.
The DJ and broadcaster says in a statement, “This is exactly why I started Worldwide FM radio and there are so many other incredible community driven projects out there I want to uncover, which is what excites me about Studio Monkey Shoulder. We have no idea where this is going to take us but can’t wait to see and hear it.”
