‘Stupiditties 9’ Gets Fatter This Year, Features 42 Tracks

The multi-artist compilation by indie label ennui.BOMB offers music by rising indie artists, and it is up for free download

Stupiditties has a bit of a messiah status among up-and-coming artists in India looking to have their name on a record. And for some of the more established names, having their track in the annual multi-artist compilation is like a renewed stamp of approval of their indie status. The ninth edition of the indie album by Mumbai label ennui.BOMB was released last Saturday in Mumbai with a gig featuring some of the artists on the album.

Stupid Ditties 9 has 42 tracks that cover almost the entire breadth of music styles ”“ punk, rock, pop, acoustic, folk, electronica and hip-hop. The fat release features fresh names on the circuit such as Shillong-based rock band Dosser’s Urge [“Karma”], Chennai indie rockers Ratify [“Canopy”] and Mumbai pop act Grey Area [“Little Lives”], as well as the now-popular artists like Mumbai alt rock band Last Remaining Light [“Fat Like Gepetto”], rapper MC Manmeet Kaur [“Made Love to J Dilla That Night”] and folk act Imphal Talkies [“Lullaby”].

Says ennui.BOMB co-founder Rishu Singh, “Stupid Ditties 9 is special because of the sheer volume of talent that we have managed to curate. There’s lots of fresher sounds! So many that it would’ve been impossible to restrict it to 12-20 songs.”

The launch gig which was held in Mumbai’s Brewbot, saw short sets each by MC Manmeet Kaur, singer/songwriter Awkward Bong, punk band Punk On Toast, singer-songwriter Tejas, electro-pop act Laxmi Bomb and prog rockers Oak Island.
