The Delhi-based experimental/industrial band play their debut gig at Blue Frog, Delhi along with glitch hop artist Frame/Frame
When we last spoke to Delhi experimental band SundogProject, they were still setting a date for their stage debut some time in September. Tonight, the experimental supergroup make their debut after spending two years in the studio. While the band’s guitarist Viraj Mohan and drummer Shardul Mehta regularly play with Delhi EDM duo Midival Punditz, vocalist Rahul Das was last seen on stage for the recently deceased bassist Clarence Gonsalves’s [from nu-metal band Joint Family and rock band Them Clones] tribute birthday bash in October 2012.
For the SundogProject gig at Blue Frog, Delhi today, Das says the band will play all six songs off their debut full-length album, Hex1/Visions, which will be launched at the gig. Das says the debut album is the first part of a continual concept and will be followed up with another release titled Hex2/Visitations next year. Says Das, “It would be cool if people heard the songs and connected the dots. That’s the reward for an artist. It’s not a concept album, it’s not as linear. It’s more like painting a picture rather than telling a story.”
Das also mentions that the five-piece band will play all tracks from their album at the gig and even have planned to sync visuals to MIDI signals from instruments, with help from visuals programmer Nipun Sharma. Says Das, “It’s just our first show, so the visual side of things will get more crystallized later on. It’s also Nipun’s first foray into [creating visuals for] live music.”
