Bringing back the allure of Winter ballads when we’re just a few weeks shy of spring, K-pop veteran act Super Junior unveils a heartwarming music video for their latest release “Callin.” Leading the group’s special single album The Road: Winter for Spring comes roughly a year after the release of their 10th album The Renaissance

Written by SM Entertainment’s in-house songwriter Kenzie, “Callin” employs several winter-inspired metaphors to describe loneliness and longing: “I didn’t even know / What loneliness is/ Why did you come to me/ Like snow and pile up in me.” The song further expresses the agony of being caught in an endless loop of reminiscing about a failed relationship and longing for the pain to stop: “I’ve been alone for a long time/ Don’t know how to love/ Like the seasons I used to send my heart/ Sadness is familiar/ I always look the other way/ Now I regret me for being a lie.”

The alternative rock single opens with bright acoustic guitar sounds and dreamy synth arrangement, weaving a rather uplifting soundscape for a lyrical outline drenched in melancholy. The rhythmic percussion melody steers the track ahead, further instilling a distant feeling of a spring soundscape in a predominantly winter ballad.

“Callin” mirrors the track’s gloomy lyrical outline through a winter-inspired concept. Clad in knitted sweaters, blazers and plaid overcoats, the members wistfully stroll inside an abandoned house, whilst seeking shelter from the snowstorm outside.

Forayed by “Callin,” Super Junior’s single album The Road: Winter for Spring features the instrumental version of the lead single as well as the B-side track “Analogue Radio.”

In other news, Super Junior’s Kyuhyun recently concluded his season-inspired musical project with the release of the fourth EP Love Story (4 Season Project 季).
