Sushant Divgikr to Perform at Rolling Stone India’s Pride Party

The celebrated actor, model, singer and drag queen will bring his best voice to close our month-long Pride Month celebrations

At the virtual launch of Rolling Stone India‘s June cover — which celebrates Pride month and the country’s vocal LGBTQIA+ figures — Sushant Divgikr’s singing range probably did well to make sure every face lit up. The actor, model and singer — who also performs under his drag identity Rani Ko-He-Nur — has been a shape-shifting musician for more than a decade. To bring our #PrideIssue celebrations to a close, Divgikr will perform a special set for a livestream concert on June 28th.

Known at first as India’s rep at Mr. Gay World in 2014, Divgikr shot into Indian pop culture after appearing on MTV as well as being a part of reality TV shows such as Bigg Boss the same year. In his journey to stardom, Divgikr has perhaps been the embodiment of ‘out and proud.’ He said in a video interview, “I never hid anything. I never had an alternative personality type which would kind of facade my sexual orientation. I would never do that, because that’s kind of demeaning yourself.”

However, Divgikr also took his music seriously the whole time. He can throw out the huskiest, deepest of voices for songs but also modulate his voice to become soulfully saccharine, offering the best of many worlds. By 2018, Divgikr had founded pop-rock band Top Storey, which holds the distinction of being one of the few acts in India fronted by a drag queen. Performing across the country — and even in Dhaka — Top Storey has dug into tribute nights for everyone from Michael Jackson to Madonna and Queen, with Divgikr being the astoundingly fluid voice wowing audiences.
