Sushant KC on Why He Made ‘Uff,’ a Hindi Adaptation of His Nepali Song ‘Bardali’

Just about six months after the release of his charming song “Bardali,” Nepal’s singer-songwriter Sushant KC has adapted the hit into Hindi with “Uff,” released via Indian major label T-Series.

Sushant is joined by “Bardali” co-vocalist Indrakala Rai once again, plus arranger/producer and sarangi artist Kobid Bazra. The music video directed by Nayan Rai takes Sushant and actor Swastima Khadka to a wedding, with scenes straight out of a filmi romance adding to the playfulness of “Uff.”

The artist says in a statement, “Creating ‘Bardali’ was a deeply special experience for me, and now seeing it evolve into ‘Uff’ — its Hindi adaptation — feels like a beautiful new chapter.” Sushant, who has amassed millions of streams for songs like “Sarangi,” “Aama” and “Risaune Bhaye” over the years, says he’s always “dreamed of taking our music to a larger audience” and this release with an Indian label is part of that endeavor.

His Spotify stats show that four of his top five cities are in India, including Guwahati, Shillong, Siliguri and Kolkata. He adds, “I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to share a piece of our journey with even more listeners. Working with Swastima Khadka once again has added even more emotion and joy to this project. I feel proud, emotional, and beyond excited to see how ‘Uff’ carries the soul of ‘Bardali’ into a new language and culture.”

Releasing music as early as 2016 with his debut EP Blue Figments, Sushant has been among the most popular voices from Nepal. In 2021, a brand partnership led him to sing on EDM veteran David Guetta’s song “Get Together.”
